Childhood memories. Some are good, some are bad, and some are just, well…odd. It’s always fascinating to me that our mind can recall events that happened to us even at such a young age.
I’m not exactly sure how old I was when this event happened, but I can remember enough to know I was not in school yet. What I do remember well was my beloved “Boo-Boo” bike. Although I endured many scrapes and bruises riding it, I would still be so excited to get outside and see how fast I could pedal my tiny 3-wheeled bike.
I remember one particular day I discovered how to pedal really fast but turn into the soft dirt we had in our front yard. Apparently, this is called “drifting” but at the time I just knew it was fun! My older sister, Keri, was playing outside with me when I made this discovery. Of course, being the older sister she insisted on having a turn! Now as you already know, we humans are very selfish by nature. So needless to say, I wasn’t about to give up my boo-boo bike to my older sister who I already thought had it better than me.
I don’t exactly recall how the chain of events transpired but I do remember my mother finally getting involved and telling me I had to share and give my sister a turn. I knew better than to disobey my mom, but I wasn’t happy about it. At that moment I’m not sure if it was the dark side rising up in me or if I just drank too much apple juice that morning, but whichever it was caused me to relieve the contents of my tiny bladder while I still sat on my precious Boo-Boo bike. Unfortunately, neither my sister nor my mom noticed the small puddle as I carefully stood up and told my sister she could have her turn. I’m pretty sure I had already made it inside the house before I heard my sister scream.
